Summer has been courting me for the past month and a half and the courtship has led to some tension in the relationship. I have an abandonment problem and I have an addictive personality. The two together make brief interludes of silence and taking one's space difficult. I get a small taste of something good and I'm hooked...and when I realize it was not there to stay forever, disappointment ensues. Think about it this way, you go and get a pedicure and absolutely fall in love with a certain color of nail polish...to the point that it is the only color you wear. Then one week you go in for your bi-weekly pedicure and that color is no longer on the shelf--it has been discontinued. How do you feel? Crestfallen? Well, I would...not for very long but you get the point.
During the week of February 13th, St. Louis experienced unseasonably warm weather--highs flirting with the 70 degree mark most days. During the afternoon of February 18th, I spent three hours laying on the steps by the clocktower in shorts and a tanktop with some friends.
The following week, however, I found myself taking three extra minutes every morning deciding which scarf went best with my outfit for the day. It was winter in St. Louis once again, and, let me tell you I was not pleased. Every day my facebook status was some complaint about the weather. Each moment I was forced to make small-talk, I brought up the weather and passionately exuded my frustration with Mother Nature. My friends were just as cold as I was but even more aggravated because it was all I would talk about.
It is time. (achem...NOW!)
It is time for SLUruba to open and for frisbees to be thrown around the quad and for flipflops and tanktops and sunglasses every day and for perfect naps on the steps. Dear summer, please show yourself. It is time.
Sunday it was 83 and we cruised to the beach with the top down...and now it's cold again! It's playing games with me too!
ReplyDeleteI think summer weather may be in St. Louis to stay. It has been in the 80s since Friday and even the mornings (yes, I am awake in the morning. Unlike the typical college student, I am often jolted by my alarm clock at 5:22 am) have a warmth about them these days.
